SIGBI Initiatives

Not only do LGBTQ+ folks still suffer the indignities and fear arising from social intolerance, but, increasingly many state legislatures promote legislation designed to inhibit or even reverse LGBTQ civil rights achievements of the past fifty years.

  • LGBTQ+ folks navigate discrimination year-round by participating in our Safe Space Certificate you’re giving LGBTQ+ folks a safe place to land. Learn more about how your organization can participate in our Safe Space Certificate program.

  • Every year we honor LGBTQ+ leaders, activists, and icons from around the globe. This gala is a fundraising event to support different LGBTQ+ initiatives run by queer organizations around the globe. Find out who will be attending this year’s gala and get yourself a ticket.

  • All LGBTQ+ individuals have the right to lead happy, healthy, out lives. With financial support from our partners and donors, we are able to reach out across the globe to support LGBTQ+ advocacy organizations and fulfill our mission of tolerance, hope and equality for all queer individuals.

  • We are committed to lowering the heartbreaking statistics of overdoses in our community. Find a list of LGBTQ+ Rehab centers that are LGBTQ+ operated and specialize in serving our beloved community.

  • Every year, 5 lgbtq seniors from different public schools in each of the five boroughs get a $10,000 scholarship. In partnership with the New York Yankees, the scholarship is to help support future LGBTQ+ leaders and activists.

This Year we went Global giving out funds to organizations and activists in Italy, China, Saudi Arabi, South Korea and Brazil as we continue the fight for LGBTQ+ global equality that started at the Stonewall Inn.

Since 2003, the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) has provided leadership at the intersection of national civil rights groups and LGBTQ/SGL organizations, advocating for the unique challenges and needs of African Americans within the LGBTQ/SGL community that are often overlooked or side-stepped.

@nbjconthemove's mission is clear, and all of us at SIGBI couldn't be more supportive of it: to end racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ/SGL bias and stigma.

By focusing on the factors that limit authentic, meaningful representation and active participation from the African American LGBTQ/SGL community, NBJC aims to build and sustain long-term initiatives to tear down the systemic barriers that have been so limiting, for so long.

The Stonewall Inn Gives Back initiative gives grant to Centerlink to support rural centers.

The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative has funded a Project to support and to assist CenterLink in providing tailored technical assistance and training to LGBTQ community centers located in rural areas. These funds will also directly support rural LGBTQ community centers that provide educational programming and individual-based support to LGBTQ people.

Fighting for justice and equality in Alabama and across the south, The Knights & Orchids Society (TKO) strives to build the power of the TLGB community for African Americans throughout rural areas there. Employing strategies that draw on group economics, education, leadership development and cultural work, TKO has provided nearly 80,000 pounds of food and essential supplies to almost 1,000 beneficiaries in the past year, and has raised over $97,000 for its FAITH HIV Education & Testing program.

This Pride, SIGBI is as thankful as ever for the work that @tko_alabama is doing for its communities, and the spirit of Stonewall that it represents. We are honored to be able to provide TKO with a $5,000 grant in support of its mission

Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative teams up with LA Pride to raise funds for Prides across across the country with virtual 5k run

The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative and Pride organizations from across America have come together to create the first-ever Pride Stride. For the first time ever, over 30 Pride LGBTQ+ organizations are joining to commemorate National Coming Out Day while providing an uplifting, fun, and safe virtual event for LGBTQ+ communities across the nation during these challenging times. This year a majority of Pride organizations had to cancel or dramatically scale back its celebrations, and this event is helping bring the community together. A portion of registration entry fees will go to support these Prides and their local communities.The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative, and the programs we support.

On April 23, 2020 the biggest names in music, art, and LGBTQ+ excellence came together for Stonewall Gives Back, a live stream concert with World of Wonder and The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative (SIGBI) to raise funds for those in need during the COVID-19 crisis.

New York Yankees announces Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative

The New York Yankees today announced the creation of the Yankees-Stonewall Scholars Initiative to commemorate the upcoming 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Inn uprising and celebrate the achievements of New York City Public School graduating seniors who have demonstrated academic achievement, a commitment to equality and impactful support for the LGBTQ community. The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative to be recognized in pre-game ceremonies. SIGBI thanks the leadership of Pride Live and the New York Yankees for this partnership.

The first large grant from The Stonewall Inn Gives Back Initiative was given to the Mississippi LGBTQ Fund. Mississippi has long been one one the most difficult places to live for LGBTQ people and with the New law that passed in early October it has officially become the worst State in the country in terms of legal rights for LGBTQ people.
